City of Craig, CO

Transit Development Plan

In 2004 and 2005, the City of Craig, Moffat County, and the Colorado Department of Transportation sponsored a TDP for the City of Craig and the surrounding areas. In 2014 as part of the development of the Statewide Transit Plan, the City of Craig applied for and was awarded planning funds to update the 2005 TDP.

The primary goal of the updated TDP is to identify unmet transportation needs in the City of Craig and the surrounding areas to determine if there is enough demand to warrant the provision of a basic level of public transit in the study area. Transportation needs and travel patterns change as communities experience change in growth, development, employment patterns, and aging population. Public transportation services must adjust to meet those needs.

Interim Report #1 - Existing Conditions and Transportation Needs Assessment

Interim Report #1 presents information about existing community conditions and transportation needs which have been identified. Population characteristics, employment, and travel patterns are reviewed. A community survey has been used to obtain input from local residents regarding the need for transportation services. These needs are described along with needs identified through an analysis of travel patterns and demographics.

Interim Report #2 - Transit Service Options

Interim Report #2 presents the evaluation of transit service options in the Craig study area. The options were identified from a variety of sources. Input included comments from the project steering committee, the evaluation of existing transportation services, and community survey comments. The evaluation considers the operating costs of the options, potential ridership, and productivity. Preliminary recommendations for transit in the Craig study area are then presented and provide a starting point for discussion and selection of a preferred service plan.
